Editorial – What to wear to Derby Day

My Favourite time of the year has come around again! The Spring Racing Carnival is the social event of the season and it kicks of this Saturday with AMMI Victoria Derby Day!

In celebration of this carnival I have selected some of my favourite looks and styles for Derby Day this year that you need to keep an eye out for. Remember people – Black and White only or it’s social suicide.

This Asilio Order of Style Skirt and Top is the perfect look for Derby Day. Not only is is classic with its suit like black and white appearance, but its intricate folds make it edgy and trendy. It takes the feminine suit to a whole new level.

Everyone who goes to races knows that there is a set rule of what you can and cannot wear. Jumpsuits, are unfortunately, on that list! However no many people know that you can definitely wear jumpsuits that are of high quality and well…gorgeous. This rule was put in place to maintain a sense of modesty and class. Therefore, I would suggest this Viktoria + Wood Oracle Jumpsuit . I love the cut and the flare takes us right back to the 70’s where everything is groovy. Team it up with a bower hat and some white heels and boom – you are a knock out.

If you’re anything like me you attend every Race Day of the carnival – making it a very costly week than can put big dents into your credit card. This year I have decided to take the more modest approach and have brought every one of my dresses off ASOS at a reasonable price. Below is the True Decadence Premium Lace Midi Dress with Laddering Detail at $212.00 AU which seems to be inspired by the Self Portrait designs but without the hefty price tag. I love the detail of the lace and the pattern which immediately draws the eye. You don’t have to pair this with an over the top fascinator, rather something simple with some gorgeous black drop earrings.

This year, Flemington has introduced ‘The Park’. A fun filled playground where adults can relive their youth, take amazing selfies and look fabulous at the same time. This dress by Sheike encompasses all of the above. It’s got flare, character and a little mystery. Stripes downwards are a great way to elongate your legs while the ones across the chest will give you décolletage room to stand out. This would go great with a simple straw boater hat to cut through the monochrome.

So what ever style is your poison remember to look and feel glamours all day long!

Happy Spring Carnival!
